So, like most of you, we’ve been busy….here’s a quick recap.  🙂

Cate’s birthday was lots of fun! She had both a friend party and family party.  We were super happy to have so many to help us celebrate our big girl.

The cake.

Lots of PINK (ya know, cause pink is very “girlish”).

The princesses of the royal party.

Cate, enjoying her new “rocker” toys.  Notice the amazing outfit.

It was a great birthday weekend!  Thank you for all of your happy wishes!

Aaaaaaand in other big girl news…guess who’s been wearing BIG GIRL UNDER WARE?!!

Right around Thanksgiving, Anna asked to wear her big girl under ware and she hasn’t looked back!  Wow, Team B is SO different!  Yay Anna!!

And last, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here!  Though we have our decorations up, we still have lots of shopping to do.  But it all gets done, we’re not stressed.  We’ve already seen Santa, shopped for our adoptive family, made ornaments,  went to Light Up Downtown, and just today Cate and I went to Nutcracker!

In trying to “get into the Christmas spirit” this year, I had a moment of clarity.  When you are a kid, the magic of Christmas is, well, magical.  But as an adult, it takes a little more to get in to it, certainly having kids helps a lot.  Anyway, this year, I realized the Christmas spirit is like anything else in my life.  I have the choice to feel the “spirit” or not. I have the choice to embrace the magic of this time of year.  It always feels good to remind myself that each day, I have the choice and its up to me to make every day, especially at Christmastime, magical.

JLP…Winter Edition

I’ve had SO MUCH FUN in my first, sort of, “season” of photography.  I’ve loved meeting new people, capturing memories for them, and learning lots!

So…what will I be working on this winter?  Well, a few things actually…first, I’m looking forward to spending lots of time with my sweet family and second, we’re going to get ready for baby boy!  We’ve got lots of preparation but first on my list is staying rested and healthy.

As far as photography goes, I’m not really equipped for indoor photography and don’t really like how “pose-y” indoor photos can be, with one exception…sweet little newborn babies!  If you’re expecting this winter, give me a call, I’d LOVE to photograph your newborn.

Thank you so much to all of my first year clients!  Thank you for taking a chance on me, thank you for your kind and encouraging words, thank you for giving my name to your friends, and thank you for being SO fun to work with!

Happy Birthday, Big Girl!

Where does the time go?  Our baby is 4 and there really isn’t enough time to talk about all the things we love about her.  She’s kind and truly considerate, happy and silly, smart and cute, independent and confident, opinionated and direct, trusting and loyal…I could (and probably will) go on and on.  But first, a picture… (and I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty proud of these).

Over the past few months, as Cate has drawn closer to 4, she has really changed.  She has shown such maturity and confidence.  She has always been a little character full of personality, but all of the sudden this amazing personality is paired with independence and she is simply blossoming.

She’s into pretty typical 4-year-old stuff, she likes princesses, playing  babies, kitchen, store and dollhouse.  But her interests really lie in all things musical and imaginative.  She LOVES to dance and sing and thanks to her newest obsession, Taylor Swift, she LOVES to put on “beautiful dresses and high heels” and rock out, just like Taylor.  On most days she “is” one of her idols, either a “beautiful ballerina”, a “12 year old”, “Taylor Swift” or big cousin “Makayla”.  (Oh yes, Makayla is right up there with Taylor Swift!  She really is that cool).

She’s also waaaaay into fashion.  Each day, she picks out the clothes that she wants to wear, and changes her clothes at least 3 times a day.  Her top choices are usually a dress or a skirt, but always her favorite pink high tops.  🙂  (So, if you see our daughter in some crazy outfit, she has most likely picked it out herself, don’t judge.) 🙂  The main criteria for her outfits is that they are “girlish”.  For example, here is  a recent conversation:

Me: How about these jeans, Cate?

Cate: No, they’re not girlish enough.

Me: Huh?

Cate: They look like boy’s jeans.  I feel like a farmer in them.

So, if you were wondering, yes, she picked out her entire outfit for her shoot.  We went to the mall, and this is what she wanted.  She also begged me for a pair of jeans and sparkly top because it looked “just like a 12 year old!”.

She was way into her photo shoot.  All of the sassy poses, all her.  It was so fun!!

As I mentioned before, Cate loves music and LOVES to “rock out”.  So, after ever couple of shots, she would have to take a minute to rock out, then she was good to go for more pictures.  Here are just a few of her rocker stances.

Cate Favorites

Cate Favorites-2

We’re simply oozing with pride over this little girl.  We hope that we can continue to foster her individuality and creativeness.  We are so proud of her kindness and gentle spirit and instead of being sad about her getting another year older, we will embrace the changes, enjoy the ride and thank God for every single moment we get to spend with this awesome kid.  Happy Birthday, Cate. We love you more than words can say.

Lila (and her mom and dad!) are good friends of ours and I was thrilled to take her 2 year pictures.  Like most 2-year-olds, she just wanted her Mama!  🙂  So, as you will see, we got some adorable pictures of this little cutie, but mostly just her sweet face so that she could be safe and happy in her Mama’s arms!  (So cute!)

My favorite…

We did manage this one of her running.  She spotted her binky and took off toward it!
