Kitchen Remodel

This past summer, we totally remodeled our kitchen. And by we, I mean Gary Ritchie Construction.  🙂 It was a project that we’d been wanting to do since we first moved into our house 7 (!) years ago.  Gary Ritchie came highly recommended, and did not disappoint.  He spent lots of time with us, discussing our options, listening to our ideas and giving us his ideas.  We were thrilled with Gary.  His two sons, Dirk and Travis, were the two to do all of the labor in our kitchen, and they were wonderful!  These three are master craftsmen.

They built our custom kitchen with amazing craftsmanship and care.  These guys know their stuff and did everything…they removed the soffit above our sink, rewired for new lighting, installed a new ceiling, made cabinets, hung cabinets, made our counter-tops, installed our counter-tops, laid the tile on our new floor and trimmed.  I thought that having 2 men working in my house would be stressful, but it was not.  Dirk and Travis took great care to keep the ‘mess’ in the kitchen and were always polite, funny, easy to talk to and always kept us up-to-date with the progress they were making. We really can’t say enough about the wonderful work that the Ritchie boys did in our kitchen.  If you need work done in your home, from big jobs to small jobs, Gary Ritchie Construction is the way to go!

Below are the “before” photos, taken by Gary…

Aaaaahhhhhhh….and after!! 🙂 🙂

The removal of the soffit above the sink, combined with cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling, really made the room feel much more open and larger!  (And, for the record, both Corey and Gary had to talk me into both of these things…I didn’t think it would make that big of a difference…I. was. wrong.) 😀kitchen-111

This giant island was our idea, and Gary really made it come to life! In our old kitchen, the room felt awkward with both an island and a kitchen table…and since most people stand around the island anyway, we thought, “lets do one GIANT island”!  We LOVE it.  The 4 feet of the island closest to the oven are cabinets, and the table itself is 6 feet long. I can stand at one end to prep food, and then pass is straight down the table.  It was just what we had in mind! kitchen-110

This may be my favorite part…Gary Ritchie Construction made this custom side to the fridge…we have our family calendar hanging here and the kids each have their own basket for school/home work. kitchen-109

All new lighting made a huge difference too!  And ooohhhh…that white subway tile back splash just makes me happy. kitchen-108kitchen-107

These giant heavy-duty drawers are across from our dishwasher.  We open the dishwasher and plop our dishes right into a drawer.  This should make it easier for the kids to unload the dishwasher, right? 😉 kitchen_picts_tocollage1

Corey cursed the floor in our old kitchen nearly every day…we LOVE how the rectangle shaped- chocolate brown tile came out. kitchen_picts_tocollage2

Our pantry is kind of a big deal…kitchen-106kitchen-105

Gary suggested we move our massive microwave from above the stove to tucked away in a custom cabinet…genius idea! kitchen-104

I had a little (okay, okay, a lot) of fun shopping for green accessories.  🙂  The utensils and bowls are from World Market, the ‘Lenhart Family’ birdie picture is from Etsy, towels from Target and our counter-height island stools and rug are from Pier One. kitchen_details_tocollagekitchen-103

We use the appliance garage to shove organize all of the junk that used to be on our counter. kitchen-102kitchen-101

Some quick side-by-sides…

A HUGE HUGE thank you to Gary, Travis and Dirk.  You three were a pleasure to work with and the work you did on our kitchen was top notch.  We are so thankful for your talent, your time and for our one-of-a-kind kitchen!
