New Year’s Eve…9:00pm…
Jaime: It’s almost the new year! Let’s toast to this wonderful year that we’ve had!
(Pours champagne for the grown ups, sparkling grape juice for the girls.)
Cate: Mommy! What is this?! What does it taste like?! Are you sure we can drink it? I don’t know. I don’t think I can drink it!
Corey: It’s just grape juice, sweetie. Just bubbly grape juice.
Cate: Bubbly grape juice!? What?! I’ve never had bubbly grape juice before! Ummm… (smells it)….I don’t know… What will it taste like?!
Anna: I’ll drink it. 🙂 (Gulps a big drink. For a split second makes a little face because she’s not sure of the bubbles.) But immediately says, “I like it!”
Anna: Cate! Try it! It’s good. I like it!
Cate: You drank it, Anna?! I don’t know. What will it taste like? Ok. I’ll take a little drink, but I don’t know. Ok. Just a little try. (Takes a teeny tiny sip) Yuck. I don’t like that. I’m not drinking that. Mommy, can I have some water?
Anna: Well, I like it. I want some more!
Jaime: (Get’s Cate water). Okay, now let’s toast to this year! 🙂
Anna drinks some more. Cate says, “Anna! Not too much, Anna! You’re drinking too fast!”
So…like I said… Happy New Year! And…can anyone else see our daughters at a party, say, 15 or 20 years from now? Yep, us too.
