Our sweet baby girl is 6 today. I am filled with such joy, such pride, such emotion when I think of the blessing that Cate has been the last 6 years. I don’t mean to be all, my kids are my life…but, like, my kids are my life. I can remember going to bed the night before Cate was born, huge and uncomfortable, yes, but already humbled knowing a new life was on its way. But I had NO IDEA how much my life, our lives, were about to change. I had no idea the depths to which I could love, and worry…and over-think…but mostly love. 🙂 I had no idea that I would never again be the same person after becoming a mom, no idea how priorities would shift.
I don’t know why God chose Corey and I to be the parents of this amazing girl (of all of our amazing kids). I don’t know why He has blessed us so unconditionally over the years. I know that I am thankful. I know that I am happy and have never been more content and felt such grace. Gaahhhh…this was supposed to be about Cate! But, I can’t think about this girl without thinking how she was the first to call me “Mama” and to change my life forever. We enjoy her so very much and feel so totally privileged to know her and to watch her grow.
If you’re still reading, thanks, and now, enjoy this 6 year old beauty. 🙂
Being the photog and the mom is reeeeeally hard to do (you may see a crying picture on our Christmas cards, just sayin’). But, this time around, it was so FUN! Cate was totally into the shoot and loved all of it! And surprise, surprise, she had tons of “posing” ideas.
So, Cate. Six. Here are some things that come to mind…
Happy. Rule follower. Creative. Loves to play teacher. Loves school. Bossypants. Little mommy. Talkative. Amazing and loving big sister. Cook. Barbies. Music. Intuitive. Fashionista. Sensitive. Smart. Girly. Funny. Loves a play-on-words. A thinker. Introspective. Sweet. Innocent. A worrier. Finds joy in simple things. Dancer. Silly. Personality.
Six, seems to me, to be a pretty cool age. She still really needs her Ma and Pa, but is really starting to explore her independence. She truly enjoys the do-it-my-self-ness that Kindergarten brings, but if given the choice, she’d rather be home with her family. She’s also still so very innocent and child-like, but can do most things by herself.
Ah. I love her confidence in this one…makes me so proud. There are so many things that I hope to teach my daughters. One of them is confidence in being who you are. Life is tough, people can influence you. I hope my girls grow to learn who they are, what they are good at and be confident in themselves and their choices.
I love all of these black and whites, but I have to say my favorites are the two vertical ones on the right. I am always drawn to photos that are taken off guard and totally natural. These two, to me, are sooooo Cate. 🙂
So, Happy 6th Birthday to our sweet girl. She has made us so proud and we simply can’t wait to see what wonderful things year 6 brings us!
Aaaand if you happen to have 4 minutes…here are all of Cate’s picts, set to her favorite, Taylor Swift. 🙂
