{C} Family:Making Strides

Those sweet little piggies belong to baby Hannah. And those loving hands are of her strong, courageous, full of fight Mama, Angie.

Let me explain a little more…Baby Hannah is the new baby sister of Anna’s best friend, Sofie (got that?).  We’ve been lucky enough to get to know Sofie and her Mom and Dad over the last year and were so happy to welcome baby Hannah into the world.

So, what makes Hannah and Sofie’s Mama so brave and courageous you ask?  Well, Angie was diagnosed with a re-occurrence of breast cancer when she was 7 months pregnant with Hannah.  She underwent a successful mastectomy while she was pregnant and started chemo just after Hannah was born.  If this isn’t courage, I don’t know what is.

When most Mama’s are full of anticipation about how life will change with the addition of a new baby, or worrying about how much sleep they’ll get, or experiencing the pure joy that a new baby brings, Angie and Dan were thinking about survival.  They were thinking about recovering from surgery, doctors appointments, test results and how their lives would be managed with both a new baby and breast cancer.  Its enough to make you turn your head to the sky, kick and scream and shout. It’s just not something a Mother should ever have to deal with.

But this Angie, she’s a fighter through and through.  She has a wonderful support system and refuses to let this crap cancer get the best of her.  She goes to her chemo treatments with boxing gloves on and fights like hell.

And of course she fights like hell, just look at what she’s fighting for.  Look at these two beautiful babies.  How lucky are they to have such a strong and brave Mama?!

Angie has formed a team for this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer here in Canton.  She’s formed a team because that’s what she does, she inspires people and she stands up for herself and stands up for those who can’t.  She’s showing her daughters what it means to be a fighter.  She believes that early detection and self examination saves lives.

My girls and I will join Angie on the Making Strides walk.  If you’d like to show your support too, you can go here to the Making Strides website and donate to Angie, myself or for anyone on “Team Vitale”.  I know she would appreciate your support.

Angie, Dan, Sof and Hannah, we are all so thankful to have met you guys and become friends.  I truly think our friendship was in the stars long before we ever knew it.  You have our love and our support, always and we’re right here with you, with our boxing gloves on too.

Sr. Nancy Hendershot CSA - Now it is 2014 – and Angie’s life continues in her beautiful family and in all you who loved her on Earth and into eternity! She is still with you – keep looking!

You give our family strength and courage! My 35 year old niece Lynn also learned she had the big CA – Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – in the early stages of her pregnancy. Today she is a loving, caring, courageous wife and mother to just turned 4 year old Layla, 1 1/2 year old daughter Bryn and 6 month old healthy, happy baby Dominic. Today, too, Lynn is critically ill with CA and, because all other treatments have not worked, on experimental chemo. Today we are valuing her presence with us and her family, grateful for every moment.

I live in Columbia SC and am a friend of Angie’s mother-in-law. Someone passed on to me your pictures and they touch my heart.
Angie will be with you all forever. Lynn will be with us forever, too, no matter what happens next!
